The teenage environmental activist was asked about her thoughts on the US election candidates, and discussed whether Mr Trump or Mr Biden’s policies would affect change. Ms Thunberg has been outspoken on Mr Trump’s presidency, with the two exchanging barbs in public. Her comments come as the election polls open today, with the former Vice President enjoying a lead of the incumbent President.In an interview with the New York Times, Ms Thunberg was scathing in her assessment of the US election and the environmental policies on offer from Mr Biden and Mr Trump.She said: “Maybe if Trump wins that will be the spark that makes people angry enough to start protesting and really demanding things for the climate crisis.“I think we can safely say that if Trump wins it would threaten many things.“But I’m not saying that Joe Biden is good or his policies are close to being enough. Green is a colour.“So when people say that we are going to invest in green investments, that can mean anything.“The Green New Deal is very far from being enough, but as you said, it has changed the debate. It could be a small step in the right direction, and that’s the way we have to communicate it.“To say, ‘This is far from being enough’ and then always show where we need to be.”Ms Thunberg has previously expressed her support for the Democrat ahead of today’s election.In October, she tweeted: “From a climate perspective it’s very far from enough and many of you of course supported other candidates.“But, I mean you know damn! Just get organised and get everyone to vote Biden”Mr Biden has frequently claimed climate change is the “number one issue facing humanity”, but has come under fire from climate activists for his pro-fracking stance.It comes as the US election polls open today, with Mr Biden leading nationally in the polls.The final YouGov and Economist poll, published yesterday, gave the Democrat a 10 percent lead over Mr Trump across the US.A record number of ballots have been cast early due to the coronavirus pandemic, with 98.1 million voters using mail-in or early in-person voting to take part.The YouGov/Economist poll has said 70 percent of those surveyed who voted by mail have backed Mr Biden, but those who have yet to vote have backed Mr Trump by 56 percent.
